Whatcha doin’ this weekend? Taking in community theatre & awesome entertainment - that’s what!

Keywords: rocky horror huntington, the marvelous wonderettes, cinderella, 42nd street

Now these are the kind of people I prefer to spend the weekend with!

So its Friday – the work week is over and you’re wondering what a gay person can do for fun this weekend? Well, besides Fire Island – which is SO worth a day trip and all the wonderful outdoor things you can do on Long Island, you can also check out some amazing live entertainment!

On the south shore, you can catch The Marvelous Wonderettes at CM Performing Arts Center – a fantastic high energy show about four best friends from the 50′s. Enjoy songs such as- ‘Mr. Sandman’ and ‘Lollipop’ along with many other 50′s and 60′s favorites! Our very own Jill from www.weSTYLEny.com – blogger and ally extraordinaire is in the show, along with our friend Kristen!  Both are super talented, so you know it will be great!

You can also head over to the north shore for The John W. Engeman Theatre, on Main St. in Northport to catch the old time Broadway classic 42nd Street! The Engeman Theatre is special because it is the only theatre in the area that is an Equity based, Professional theatre. They hire Broadway performers, the theatre is exquisite and the caliber of the shows surpasses some Broadway shows. (Okay I also work there so I’m a little biased!) But where else will you see Broadway veterans, a chorus of amazing tap dancing girls and phenomenal costumes like you would not believe! It runs until June 17th and is not to be missed!

And if you have kids, you can also come see Cinderella at the Engeman Theatre! This hysterical show for children has adults laughing in their chairs and kids squealing the whole way through! Come catch a magical cast as they take you on an enchanting and entertaining trip through time! Kids get to meet, greet and take photos with the cast after! Check out this super-cool video about the show! (You can catch my interview at about 4 min!)

All 3 shows run Friday, Saturday and Sunday so you have many chances to catch both!

Then on Saturday night you are in for a special treat at midnight - The Unconventional Conventionalists, a Rocky Horror group from Long Island will be putting on one of their seasonal performances of The Rocky Horror Picture Show! For those of you that don’t personally know me – I am a Rocky Horror FANatic! I love the movie, know all the obnoxious call-outs and I am known to frequently pop up as Magenta in local productions of the stage show!

(That’s me, center – and my girlfriend is the hot one in the suspenders and ripped leggings with the rock hard abs. Fierce.)

This production is done with a traditional shadow cast (except when their Rocky is a girl, which I still kinda don’t get…but anyway..) and is tons of fun! The actors run all over the stage, the house and each other! So go check them out in Huntington – you can even get your tickets here - and I will see you there at MIDNIGHT! Maybe ill go in costume…

Have a great weekend and I will see you on Monday for some more wePRIDEny.com! Now that it’s June – it’s Pride Season – so that’s going to mean a whole lot of awesome posts! Also on Monday will be a new feature – Music Monday – where i’ll bring you info and tunes on some of my favorite LGBTQ artists and allys!
