Two days until Long Island Pride! On Saturday, June 9th at 1pm is Long Island Pride! It’s the 22nd year of the parade – can you believe it?! And this year, the folks who started LIGLAY (Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth) and their agency The LI GLBT Network have taken over the parade and are giving it a shiny new finish!

The parade starts at 1pm on Main St. in Huntington – but even before that, at 12:30 you can catch the first annual high-heel race! This is sure to be hysterical and fun! From 1-2 the parade marches down Main St., where there will be floats, cars and more! The Grand Marshall this year is a deal friend and inspiration, Sandy Faision. She has worked on the parade committee for 17 years and given more than half of her life to Long Islands LGBTQ community!

Then from 2-8 is Pridefest! This awesome event will be in Heckscher Park, where the parade culminates and will have food vendors, booths selling and giving away stuff, non-for profits with literature, bathrooms, a kiddie area and from 2-8 is a concert starting both local and national talent including Frenchie Davis, La Bouche and long islands own ‘lesbian American Idol’ Erinn Furey & The Free Candy Band!

Another cool feature for pride this year is the LI Pride Guide – a magazine online and that will b e distributed at pride with all the details! Check out the online version here. And check out tomorrow morning for the rest of the details on Pride, including a map of the grounds, info on the kiddie area and more fun! Happy Pride!
