Ok y’all! Here is the last post from me before Long Island Pride 2012 weekend! Tomorrow is the parade -so pay attention – there’s a lot to see, go and some major changes you need to know about!

The first thing to know is that the route is slightly different this year! The parade now starts on New York Avenue near Union Place in Huntington. Also new to the parade are floats, and they’ve upped the number of groups marching from 22 to around 50.

Also new and exciting is that this year there will be more than 50 community groups and vendors will set up shop in the park, along with a Health Pavilion that will provide HIV tests and other kinds of screenings. Also on hand will be eight gourmet food trucks and a VIP tent, along with a children’s area that will feature cotton candy, magicians, face painting and more. (LI Press)

Also – look out for The Pride Guide – an awesome glossy magazine featuring info on the day, the performers and more- including Grand Marshall and personal inspiration, Sandy Faision!

The PrideFest will be bigger than ever too with performances starting at 2pm and going until late with headliner Frenchie Davis! Also performing are hometown heroes The Free Candy Band – Long Island’s own indie-pop band fronted by out lesbian and American Idol finalist Erinn Furey. Erinn is also a spokesmodel for The Levi Strauss Jean Company based on her local work with LGBTQ youth!

The day is sure to be exciting, awesome and fun! Here is the performance line-up! The Free Candy Band goes on at 4! Come support local performers! And remember – you don’t have to be gay to go – this day is for supporters, family and friends too! Its an all day festival with something for everyone where LGBTQ folk can feel safe, supported and normal!

That night, you can catch the official Women’s Long Island Pride Parade After Party at Lulu’s Village Pub in Port Jefferson. It’s the “Chicks Who Rock” showcase and it’s going to be amazing! Come catch 3 women/lesbian fronted bands rock out all night long! Here’s all the info!

Now go have a rockin’ pride and come say hi to The Free Candy Band – we will be at a table in the Music Pavilion! Happy Pride! And readers – send in your pics from Long Island Pride Parade 2012 and they’ll be featured on wePRIDEny.com’s LI Pride Parade 2012 review! GO GAYS!
